Laboratory

The trend in the paper industry is to reduce raw material costs, lower water consumption, reduce energy and maintain the mechanical strength properties of the paper all whilst making the paper at higher production rates.

This is set against a shortage of resources for evaluating new novel additives. It is fair to suggest that paper makers are becoming risk adverse to trials unless there can be a compelling argument.
AxForm Dynamic Sheet Former

The most significant advantage of the dynamic sheet former is the high reproducibility. The repeatability is attained simply due to the process being highly automated. The sheet former has full machine speed control and automated chemical dosage control. Paper machine speeds can be simulated up to 1300m/min producing a sheet 200mm CD x 850mm MD. Basis weight can be produced from 40 to 200 gsm. Moreover, multi-layer sheets can be formed due to the jet nozzle. The jet nozzle can control and reproduce the shear and hydrodynamic forces on any machine creating a simulation of fibre orientation. The paper is then pressed and dried on the combined press and drier. The paper sheet can be tested for both cross direction and machine direction properties.
